Holy Trinity Seminary Seniors participated in Commencement
on May 18, 2008, at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.
Barry Cuba (Austin) senior was recognized with the Helen Corbitt, "2008
Corbitt Man." Dr. Kathleen Burk, Associate Academic Dean of the
University of Dallas, sent the following description of the presentation
to Cuba:
"The
2008 Corbitt Man graduates today cum laude with a résumé that
reveals the foundations of a future life of servant leadership. He
complemented a Major in Philosophy and Letters and a distinguished
thesis with a concentration in Business, earning accolades from faculty
in both colleges. But his other life, his life of service, elicits
recognition as extraordinary.
Notable among his many hours of
extra-curricular activities are his work as a first responder in the
devastated city of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina through Mobile
Loaves and Fishes, an internship at the Chancery of the Diocese of
Austin working in areas of Stewardship, Finance, and Facilities
Management, while, at the same time, leading a vocation retreat for high
school students. He organized his fellow students in a 5K run to raise
scholarship money for underprivileged Dallas students. Most recently he
has served as a Chaplain Assistant at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center, ministering to the spiritual needs of
patients.
He will begin graduate studies this
fall at the University of St. Thomas Graduate School of Theology at St.
Mary’s Seminary in Houston, Texas because he continues to discern a
vocation to the priesthood for the Diocese of Austin. His cheerful,
capable, confident “yes” to that call is the answer to many hopes."
We are certainly proud of all our
new HTS Alumni. Please keep them, and all our returning Seminarians, in
your prayers this summer.
